Talin Thermal Power Plant is located in Xiaogang District, Kaohsiung City. It was built in the 1960s to meet long-term economic development and rapidly increasing demand for electricity in Taiwan.
It was the only thermal power plant in Taiwan which burns various types of fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) at the same time. To improve power generation efficiency, reduce pollution emissions and respond to the growing demand for power, Talin old coal-fired unit 1 and unit 2 that had been in operation for more than 40 years were decommissioned on August 31, 2012 and two 800 MW high efficiency ultra-supercritical coal-fired units were installed.
Talin old heavy oil-fired unit 3 and unit 4 were decommissioned on November 3, 2017, demolished in April, 2022, and two combined-cycle units will be reconstructed. The natural gas-fired unit 5 was also decommissioned on December 31, 2022 and converted to an emergency standby unit. Currently, there are two ultra-supercritical coal-fired units and natural gas-fired unit 6 in operation. Total installed capacity is 2150 MW.
