Talin Thermal Power Plant is located in Xiaogang District, Kaohsiung City. It was built in the 1960s to meet long-term economic development of Taiwan and rapid increased electricity demand.
It was the only thermal power plant in Taiwan with various types of fuel (coal, oil, natural gas) at the same time.
Talin old coal-fired unit 1 and unit 2 that had been in operation for more than 40 years were decommissioned on August 31, 2012. To improve power generation efficiency, reduce pollution emissions and respond to the demand for power growth, two 800 MW high efficiency ultra-supercritical coal-fired units were installed.
Talin old heavy oil-fired unit 3 and unit 4 were decommissioned on November 3, 2017, and were demolished in April 2022. Natural gas-fired unit 5 was also decommissioned on 111.12.31 and converted to an emergency standby unit. Currently, there are two ultra-supercritical coal-fired units and six natural gas-fired units in operation. Total installed capacity is 2,150 MW.
