Hsieh-ho Power Plant is located in Keelung City. Construction began in 1972 and was completed in 1985 to meet the government’s economic development needs and enhance the reliability of the power supply. The plant originally featured heavy oil-fired units, each with an installed capacity of 500 MW, for a total of 2,000 MW.
Units 1 and 2 were decommissioned on December 31, 2019, while Units 3 and 4 remain in operation, providing a total capacity of 1,000 MW. To meet the increasing electricity demand in northern Taiwan, the “Hsieh-ho Power Plant Renewal Project” has been launched. The project involves reconstructing the plant’s infrastructure and converting it into two gas-fired combined cycle units, with a combined capacity ranging from 1,000 to 1,300 MW.
