The 2024 Asia-Pacific Exposition for Sustainability held its grand opening today (August 8th) at Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) Hall 1. The Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards ceremony was held at the same time. Out of 507 entries from 230 organizations across Taiwan this year, Taipower won three major awards – two silver and one bronze – for its achievements in electricity science education, small hydropower projects, and smart electricity solutions. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Taipower has been recognized. The Company’s displays for the Exposition focus on energy transition and ecological integration. A Taipower representative noted that the exhibition will be open to the public, free of charge, for the next three days. The display uses native Casuarina trees and bat nest boxes to evoke the Yunlin Taixi Wind Farm’s bat habitat, creating a "forest vibe". Visitors can also experience Web AR and take home gifts such as canvas cooler bags and recycled woven socks.

Under the theme "Energy Go! Energy and Ecology in Harmony", Taipower teamed up with CPC Corporation to create a booth representing the Ministry of Economic Affairs at the 2024 SDG Asia exhibition. The booth is open to the public, free of charge, for the next three days.

The 2024 SDG Asia and Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards ceremony were held this morning at TWTC Hall 1, marking the opening of the event. Taipower Vice President Tsai Chih-Meng represented the Company in receiving the awards. There, Taipower shared the honor with well-known companies such as PX Mart, Metro Taipei, and FamilyMart. The Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards have been organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) since 2021. The Awards uses the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as criteria to recognize organizations that promote environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and economic development. Taipower has won awards every year since the inception of the awards and, this year, received two silver and one bronze awards for three initiatives: A Symphony of Power Science Education;  Many Streams Create Great Hydropower; and  Our Powers United for Smart Power Usage. These initiatives align with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

A representative explained that in Taipower’s efforts to reach the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, the Company continues to promote a diverse array of carbon-free and low-carbon power sources, including renewable energy. Hydropower is the oldest method of electricity generation, but it still continues to provide sustainable energy given to us by nature. Since 2016, Taipower has launched a nationwide small hydropower project, for which 10 potential sites were selected. These sites, combined with existing reservoirs, hydropower plants, and irrigation systems, have been equipped with small generating facilities of less than 20 MW. These facilities have the advantages of minimal environmental impact, simple and quick construction, and relatively low building costs. The first such plant began commercial operations in 2022; the plants now contribute over 100 GWh of green electricity annually, equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of approximately 28,000 households, and reducing carbon emissions by nearly 60,000 metric tons per year. This allows single drops of water to be used many times, maximizing their benefits.

A Taipower representative pointed out that, in addition to working at the power generation end, the Company has recently been promoting diverse management of electricity demand to address the new challenges brought by green energy development. This includes introducing time-of-use electricity pricing; integrated electricity solutions for electric vehicles; and small-scale green energy purchasing options. All these solutions are aimed at creating smart electricity lifestyles. Taipower has also focused on electricity science education through initiatives such as the Taiwan Popular Science Train, the Workplace Visitation Program for Youth, and the nation's only electricity design competition – the kW Design Award – which helps to connect electricity knowledge to people’s everyday lives in a meaningful way.

A Taipower representative stated that, at the 2024 SDG Asia exhibition, not only has the Company received recognition in the form of the three Sustainability Action Awards, it has also teamed up with CPC Corporation to organize a booth. The displays, themed on "Energy Go! Energy and Ecology in Harmony", represent the Ministry of Economic Affairs at the exhibition. The booth, which is open to the public free of charge for the next three days, embodies the theme by using large areas of clean, translucent, recycled materials and an open layout to reduce decorations and material use. The site also evokes the forested bat habitats at the Yunlin Taixi Wind Farm using native Casuarina trees and bat nest boxes. Visitors can experience an interactive Web AR game, test their knowledge through a quiz, and take home exclusive gifts such as canvas cooler bags and recycled woven socks.
