November 15, 2023 - The Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, considered the “Corporate Sustainability Oscars", held its 16th award ceremony today. Taipower was recognized with five major awards this year. Apart from winning the highest honor in sustainability reporting in the energy sector for the 6th consecutive year, Taipower also received accolades such as the Taiwan Top 100 Sustainable Model Enterprise Award, Creative Communication Leadership Award, Information Security Leadership Award, and Gender Equality Leadership Award. Taipower stated that as a behind-the-scenes driver of the country’s industrial development, it will continue to commit to ensuring a balance between stable power supply and environmental protection. The Company remains dedicated to implementing energy transition, working toward the goal of net-zero emissions, and promoting corporate sustainability development.

The 2023 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards ceremony was held today at the Grand Hotel Taipei. Taipower Vice President Chin-Chung Wu received the prestigious awards in recognition of Taipower’s achievements from Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy Chairman Yu-Hsin Chien . In an effort to encourage businesses to strengthen their commitment to sustainability, environmental friendliness, and social welfare, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy has been organizing the Corporate Sustainability Awards since 2008. This year, a total of 526 companies competed for this corporate sustainability “Oscar”, and Taipower received awards in three categories: sustainability reporting, comprehensive sustainability performance, and individual performance. Notably, Taipower has been recognized for its sustainability reporting for 15 consecutive years.

Regarding this year’s recognition with the Taiwan Top 100 Sustainable Model Enterprise Award and its sixth consecutive win of the highest honor, Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Reporting award in the energy sector, Taipower explained that its sustainability report unveils the “Five Major Sustainable Development Images” and outlines a sustainable vision and plan. Furthermore, it launches 10 pathways and sets action plans for each of them, with continuous annual reviews. This demonstrates Taipower’s outstanding comprehensive performance in environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and corporate governance, showcasing its commitment to sustainable operations.

In this year’s Corporate Sustainability Awards, Taipower received three awards in the individual performance category, including the Creative Communication Leadership Award, marking its fourth consecutive win in this category for its efforts in the conservation of the Kaohsiung Yong’an Wetland ecosystem and local community engagement. Taipower explained that the Yong’an Wetland is adjacent to the Hsinta Power Plant and, in recent years, the Company has been dedicated to creating a harmonious coexistence between the power generation facility and the natural environment. Since 2010, Taipower has established an ecological research team, conducted ecological conservation research, and collected over 300,000 records of waterbird and water depth observations. Through scientific management and the use of water level control technology, the number of waterbirds in the wetland has significantly increased. Additionally, Taipower has implemented a “citizen participation” mechanism, collaborating with local communities and environmental organizations to collectively engage in local conservation and environmental monitoring, showcasing the effectiveness of creative communication efforts.

In response to the increasing demands of digital transformation and the need for enhanced electrical grid information security, Taipower is currently in the process of establishing a cloud data center. The Company is also improving its backbone area fiber optic communication capabilities by implementing measures such as formulating information security policies and adopting international standards. This is done to enhance information security protection and strengthen the resilience of the electrical grid. These efforts earned Taipower the Information Security Leadership Award.

This year, Taipower also received its first-ever Gender Equality Leadership Award, recognizing the Company’s efforts in promoting gender equality and empowering women. These efforts include achieving diversity in the Board of Directors (with women making up one-third of the Board), increasing the representation of female employees (adding 1,624 women in the past decade), implementing initiatives such as flexible working hours, and creating a supportive environment for childcare (including a workplace early education center).
