Taipower’s strength has been recognized internationally! Regarded as the most prestigious CSR award in Asia, the “Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA)” held an in-person award ceremony today (June 30, 2023) in Cambodia after a 3-year hiatus. Taipower stands out among more than 300 entities from 17 countries worldwide, earning distinctions by pioneering the “Integrated Solar and Energy Storage” facility and the 5-year restoration of the Jinguashi Shinto Shrine. The company won both the Green Leadership Category and the Social Empowerment Award, making this the sixth consecutive year it’s been recognized with the Asia Responsible Enterprise Award. With a total of 10 awards, Taipower holds the record for the most awards won by a state-owned enterprise. The company stated that while ensuring a stable power supply, it’s proactively responding to the global energy transition and contributing to cultural heritage preservation and revitalization, using its own resources to give back to society and create a positive cycle.

Enterprise Asia has long been dedicated to promoting the entrepreneurial spirit and regional sustainable development. Since 2011, it’s been organizing the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards. This year, a total of eight awards were presented, including the Green Leadership Category, Investment in People Award, Health Promotion Award, Social Empowerment Award, Corporate Governance Award, Circular Economy Leadership Award, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Award, and Responsible Business Leadership Award. Participants from around the world, including 17 countries such as Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and China, and over 300 organizations gathered for this prestigious event that took place in Cambodia today.

Continuing the success from last year, when it received the Green Leadership Category for its net-zero emissions strategy, Taipower was once again recognized this year, and acknowledged for its innovation in integrating energy storage systems with the Tainan Salt Field Solar Farm, creating Taiwan’s first MW-level “Integrated Solar and Energy Storage” facility.

With the arrival of the green energy era, well over 6 million watts of solar power are generated during the daytime, ensuring the stability of the electricity supply during peak hours. To maximize the benefits of every unit of green energy, Taipower combines the generation of 20 million kWh of green energy per year with the Taichung Salt Field Solar Farm, which generates over 100,000 tons of carbon reduction benefits annually. The facility has a capacity of 20 MW and a total energy storage capacity of 20,000 kWh, equivalent to providing energy for 40,000 households per hour, creating Taiwan's first “Integrated Solar and Energy Storage”.

Taipower stated that Tainan’s Salt Field Solar Energy Storage facility features rapid charging and discharging capabilities, regulating the integration of solar power generation into the grid, and maintaining grid stability. Additionally, the energy storage batteries can effectively store excess solar power generated during the day, redistributing electricity to be used during the night or during emergencies. Its response speed is far superior to that of traditional power generation units, surpassing them by over a thousand times.

• To maximize the benefits of every unit of green energy, Taipower combines an annual generation of 200 million kWh of green energy, contributing to over 100,000 metric tons of carbon reduction benefits annually through Tainan’s Salt Field Solar Energy Storage facility. With an installed capacity of 20 MW and a total energy storage capacity of 20,000 kWh, this system is equivalent to providing 40,000 households with 1 hour of electricity, creating the first domestic “solar energy and storage combined” field.

In recent years, Taipower has deeply cultivated its soft power. Since the late 1980s, it has taken over the management and maintenance of local cultural heritage in Ruifang, New Taipei City. It has continued to invest in cultural heritage preservation while integrating public art, driving diverse local development. In 2019, on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Thirteen Levels Remains—sealed for over 30 years—were illuminated. This achievement earned international recognition, including the German Red Dot Design Award and the Japanese Good Design Award. A 5-year restoration project was initiated in 2017 for the Jinguashi Shinto Shrine. During the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in 2022, the “Golden Festive Art Festival” was launched, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to witness the revival of historical charm at this century-old heritage site.

Taipower pointed out that in the restoration of the Jinguashi Shinto Shrine, a method of preserving remnants and protecting pillars was employed. Along the pilgrimage path, hundreds of cherry blossom trees were planted based on historical documents. To provide the public with an immersive experience of the shrine’s historical appearance, the restoration combined century-old buildings with modern digital technology. Using augmented reality (AR) technology, vanished historical scenes such as the first wooden torii gate, flags, and sacred lamps of the second-generation shrine were recreated.

• Beginning in 2017, Taipower undertook a 5-year restoration project for the Jinguashi Shinto Shrine. During the Mid-Autumn Festival of 2022, the “Golden Festive Art Festival” was held, drawing in tens of thousands of visitors to witness the restoration of the century-old site and its historical splendor.
