  • Today (January 6), Taipower held the 2022 SavePower Results Conference and announced that the total electricity saved is expected to reach 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Annual savings of 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity nationwide! Every year, Taipower promotes the concept of saving electricity, encouraging people to reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions. Today (January 6), Taipower held the 2022 SavePower Results Conference and announced that the total electricity saved is expected to reach 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), equivalent to a 900,000 metric ton reduction in carbon emissions and the annual electricity consumption of 480,000 residential consumers. It also represents a nearly 20% increase in electricity saving compared to 2021, and a five-year record high.

Taipower held the 2022 SavePower Results Conference and County and City SavePower Awards Ceremony today, announcing not only the total annual electricity savings, but also the winners of the 2022 Summer (June to September) SavePower Campaign among all counties and cities nationwide. According to Taipower, the SavePower campaign targeted residential consumers, and the administrative districts with the highest electricity savings per applicable household were selected from among 22 counties and cities. Baoshan Township in Hsinchu County ranked first in both countywide and overall electricity saving, with an average saving of 116 kWh per household. The champions in Taipei City and New Taipei City were Da’an District and Luzhou District, respectively, each saving an average of 85 kWh per household.

Jincheng Township won the championship for electricity saving in Kinmen. Mayor Li Cheng-Chi explained that, as the chief executive of the Wudao City God Temple, he discovered that the temple's lighting system was usually on 24/7; he therefore promoted the replacement of energy-consuming incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs, making the temple, which unites people's faith, the best site for modeling electricity saving. Additionally, Taipower actively installed smart electric meters and promoted the download of the Taipower app, successfully guiding the people in Jincheng to use electricity wisely. Hualien city ranked first in Hualien, and according to Hualien City Office Administration Division Director Ku Ying-Chun, their office not only installed energy-saving touch systems and induction lights to implement energy saving and carbon reduction, but also participated in the Earth Hour international one-hour lights off event in March 2022 to show the international community that Hualien promotes the concept of environmental sustainability.

Taipower has been promoting the concept of energy conservation since 2013, and to date, approximately 4.42 million households have participated in power saving activities, saving a cumulative 27.6 billion kWh of electricity. Through various activities such as outdoor events, touring the countryside, and interactive online games, Taipower aims to make electricity information more accessible to the public and turn energy saving concepts into practical actions. This year’s main theme is a continuation of 2021’s “Power Saving Starts with Me” and adds the new concept of “trends| to shape electricity saving into a popular trend around you and me.

Last year, Taipower held four large-scale thematic events and two regular touring experiences, reaching more than 22 million people. In July, Taiwan Power Company kicked off the events at the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum in Chiayi with a real-life puzzle game called “SavePower Detective”, creating memories of electricity conservation through parent-child challenges. In August, Taipower held the “Trending on SavePower” exhibition in Keelung to convey the importance of electricity through light art. In September, Taipower organized the "Windward Energy Saving" festival in Hsinchu, creating a playground for power saving. The final stop, in December, was Taroko Gorge in Hualien; the “SavePower Running” event combined a marathon with an interactive power saving game. These events demonstrate how Taipower utilizes multiple communication methods to reach out to different groups and encourages people to use electricity wisely.

In addition to the large-scale thematic events, Taipower also held 200 regular tours, and the “SavePower Smart House” bus traveled to rural communities throughout Taiwan to share tips on power saving. The bus also visited schools to convey information about power saving through board games, helping every child become a power saving expert!
