Taipower not only won the Platinum Class Sustainability Reporting Award for the fifth year in a row, but also won the Taiwan Top 100 Sustainable Model Enterprise Award and the Innovation Growth Leader Award. Taipower stated that, as the driving force behind Taiwan's industrial development, it strives to reach a balance between stable power supply and environmental protection, and will continue to implement energy transition and move towards the goal of net-zero emissions.
Today, the 2022 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards Ceremony was held at the Grand Hotel in Taipei where Taipower and hundreds of well-known domestic companies jointly accepted the award. Taipower Vice President Tsao-hua Hsu received the award from Si-kun You, the President of the Legislative Yuan. In order to encourage corporations to strengthen their emphasis on as well as investment in sustainable development, environmental protection, and public welfare, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy has held the Corporate Sustainability Awards since 2008. Up to the present, nearly 600 corporations, universities, hospitals and government agencies have participated in the event. The awards are divided into three categories: Corporate Sustainability Report Categories, Corporate Comprehensive Performance, and Best Performance of Specific Categories. This year, Taipower won awards in all three categories.
Taipower shoulders the responsibilities of being a "sustainable power provider, smart grid leader, smart life service provider, environment protection activist, and corporate social responsibility practitioner." The 2021 sustainability report fully explains the sustainable development strategy as well as short, medium and long-term goals based on these five roles. Taipower received the highest recognition with the Platinum Class Sustainability Reporting Award in the energy industry, and shared this honor with other well-known enterprises including Evergreen, AU Optronics, and Chunghwa Telecom. In addition, Taipower also gained recognition from the judges through its comprehensive performance in environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and corporate governance, winning the Taiwan Top 100 Sustainable Model Enterprise Award.
Taipower is committed to the implementation of energy transition and sustainable development, and actively develops renewable energy and energy storage systems. For example, construction began on the Offshore Wind Farm Phase II project in November. After completion, it can provide 1,000 GWh of green electricity per year. Furthermore, Taipower continues to promote the upgrade of units in thermal power plants. This year, new energy is being utilized to promote gas-hydrogen and coal-ammonia co-firing demonstration projects, gradually moving from low-carbon to zero-carbon power generation, and striving to reach a balance between a stable power supply and environmental sustainability.

In addition to winning the Platinum Class Sustainability Reporting Award and the Top 100 Sustainability Model Enterprise Award, Taipower also won the Innovation Growth Leader Award for its "Energy Trading Platform," sharing the glory with other big-name enterprises such as TSMC and Foxconn. Taipower explained that in response to the need for stabilized electricity and the development of renewable energy, Taipower has built an Energy Trading Platform with reference to the power markets of European and American countries. The Platform was launched in November 2021 to widely recruit "great partners" from the private sector and provide ancillary services in combination with the bidding model to jointly stabilize the domestic power system, becoming a virtual power plant that can be dispatched at any time.
Taipower also explained that the Energy Trading Platform has been launched for just one year. It is expected that more than 40 companies will join the Platform by the end of this year to increase the trading volume to 300 MW. In the future, the business opportunities of the "electricity sharing economy" has the potential to reach tens of billions of dollars, which will revolutionize Taiwan's electricity market.
