Taipower has won the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards for five consecutive years now! The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA), known as the most prestigious CSR award in Asia, was held online today (July 21), and Taipower stood out among more than 200 organizations in more than 10 countries throughout Asia. With its net-zero emission strategy and the Taipower Sports Team which has nurtured numerous national sports players, Taipower won awards in the “Green Leadership Category” and the “Investment in People Category.” The company said that in addition to continuously ensuring a stable power supply, it will act positively to pursue international energy transition goals, and cultivate local sports culture, bringing a bit of glory back to society.
Enterprise Asia has held its Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards since 2011 and has long been committed to Asian entrepreneurship and regional sustainable development. This year, it has presented awards in the Green Leadership, Health Promotion, Investment in People, Social Empowerment, Corporate Governance, Circular Economy Leadership and Responsible Business Leadership categories, and has attracted more than 200 organizations from more than 10 countries, including Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Thailand, to sign up and compete for glory. The award ceremony was held online today.
- 21 wind turbines of Taipower’s Offshore Wind Power Phase I Project were connected to the grid last year, generating an average of 360 GWh of electricity, enough to power nearly 90,000 households for one year.
This year, Taipower stood out from more than 60 organizations to win the “Green Leadership Category” of the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards for the first time with its energy transition and net-zero emissions strategy. In addition, with its sports team talent training system, it also won the “Investment in People Category” for the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards for the second time since 2019, sharing the honor with other well-known enterprises such as Farglory Life Insurance and Sinyi Realty. Taipower has the won awards for five consecutive years since 2018, including the awards in the “Social Empowerment” and the “Circular Economy Leadership” category last year.
Furthermore, in order to achieve its policy goals of energy transition by 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2050, Taipower has carried out reforms in the dimensions of its supply, grid system, and demand, and won awards in the “Green Leadership” category for the first time.
- Tainan Photovoltaic Power Plant was completed and put into use in 2020, with an installed capacity of 150 MW (150,000 kW).
On the supply side, Taipower has cooperated with the government’s goal of implementing energy transition by “promoting green energy, increasing natural gas, reducing coal-fired, and achieving nuclear-free,” and has been actively developing renewable energy sources in recent years. In 2020, the 150 MW Tainan Photovoltaic Power Plant was completed and put into use. In 2021, a total of 21 wind turbines in the Offshore Wind Power Phase I Project were connected to the power grid. Moreover, Taipower also promoted its gas-fired unit upgrade project and signed an MOU with Siemens Energy for hydrogen integrated technology in April of this year, fulfilling its goals of power supply stabilization and net-zero emissions. With regard to the grid system, in addition to the completion of the construction of transmission lines such as the Taiwan-Penghu submarine cable, the incorporation of ancillary services into the electricity trading platform that was formally launched in November last year has attracted private distributed power resources to invest in the grid. Through the operation of the electricity trading platform, an electricity sharing economy can be created, facilitating the stabilization of the national electricity system. As for the demand side, through the promotion of demand response and electricity conservation, the smart management of electricity use is being implemented to gradually fulfill Taipower’s vision of net-zero emissions.
- With their energetic-filled and enthusiastic image, players on the Taipower Sports Team serve as ambassadors for energy saving and environmental protection, and actively engage in campus activities such as the “Caring Train” and the “Fun Ball Game Camp.”

With the sports team talent training system that combines workplace skills and the introduction of social return on investment (SROI), it stood out from among more than 40 organizations. Taipower introduced the application of social return on investment (SROI) in 2021 to evaluate the social value created by the Taipower Sports Team in social welfare, public relations, and media exposure, and further understand the investment and performance of the Taipower Sports Team in talent development, allowing Taipower to use resources appropriately in optimizing the operation of the Sports Team.
Taipower has been engaged in sports cultivation for more than 60 years. Its Sports Team, including men’s baseball, men’s volleyball, women’s badminton, women’s volleyball, men’s football (soccer) and women’s basketball teams, have nurtured numerous outstanding players. In addition to their exceptional performance in competitions, Taipower also took the initiative to implement a “player-is-an-employee” system, which offers players a complete career training plan, enabling players to make a seamless transition to their work and to start a “second life” after their athletic retirement.
- Players of the Taipower Sports Team visit the outlying islands and rural areas of Taiwan to conduct its “Caring Train” activity, providing guidance to pass on skills and experience.
Outside the arena, the players also act as the best spokespersons for Taipower. With their energetic and healthy image, they serve as ambassadors for the promotion of energy conservation and environmental protection, actively engaging in campus activities such as the “Caring Train” and the “Fun Ball Game Camp” to expand sports resources and promote the concept of sports for all. This not only strengthens the brand image of Taipower and players externally, but also consolidates the employees’ sense of identity and team cohesiveness internally, becoming an important asset for Taipower.
