The era of energy IoT is coming. In order to carry the huge amount of data for the development of smart grid and digital transformation, Taipower's communication system is upgraded again! Taipower has expanded its communication equipment and built a super high-speed fiber optic system, becoming the first company to introduce the most advanced telecom-grade network technology in a state-owned company. Starting from today (9), Taipower opened the communication line from the Test Headquarters to the Southern Data Center, starting a new era of networking of Taipower's communication system. Taipower said that the upgraded ultra-high-speed fiber optic communication system will enable faster and more sensitive transmission of huge data streams, making power supply more stable and laying the foundation for future smart power services.
This afternoon, Taipower held a "Super High-Speed Fiber Optic Communication System Completion Ceremony" at the Taipower Building. The ceremony was attended by General Manager Chung Bin-Li, as well as distinguished guests such as Vice Chairman of the National Development Council Kao, Hsien Kuei, Director of the Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction of the Executive Yuan Su Jin-Sheng, Director of the Bureau of Energy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Weng Su-Chen, and Director of the Office of Grid Management and Modernization Strategy of the Industrial Technology Research Institute Liu Chi-Wen, to witness the milestone in the construction of Taipower's communication infrastructure. Taipower pointed out that the transmission, dispatch, protection, and monitoring of the power system, as well as the smart grid and big data analysis after the digital transformation all rely on a fast and sensitive communication system, just like the human body's "nerve conduction system", which plays an indispensable role in power dispatch and power supply safety throughout Taiwan.
Taipower's self-built ultra-high-speed fiber optic communication system, with network locations throughout Taiwan's main island and Penghu, is not only the first of its kind in the state-run business but also the first in terms of bandwidth and network scale outside of the existing telecom industry. Taipower said that Taipower took the model of national roads, provincial roads, and rural and county roads in the road system and built 992 sets of equipment in 3 levels with core network, relay backbone network, and access network in phases. In addition to increasing the core network bandwidth by 10 times to 100Gbps, the relay backbone and access network have also increased by more than 4 times and 1.6 times respectively, and the number of circuits has been expanded to more than 3 times all-around. The significant increase in bandwidth has also opened up new business opportunities for Taipower to expand bandwidth leasing for its telecom business.
Taipower explains that this communication system introduces intelligent network management technology with precise repair and circuit fault self-healing functions. In addition to accurately investigating and repairing equipment abnormalities, the self-healing network also allows the communication system to be uninterrupted and the communication resources to be dispatched in real-time, significantly improving operation and maintenance efficiency. For existing communication systems, Taipower has also introduced DWDM fiber transmission technology in the "one core, multiple-use" mode, which enables simultaneous transmission of multi-wavelength signals and significantly increases the capacity of existing fiber-optic infrastructure. In the future, Taipower plans to provide mutual backup between wired fiber optic communication system and wireless microwave communication system to accomplish the goal of "wired plus wireless, unrestricted communication".
Taipower said, Taipower started the planning in 2018 and the construction in 2020, through the epidemic and the shortage of materials, and finally overcame all the difficulties to complete the ultra-high-speed fiber optic communication system that bypasses Taiwan's main island and outlying islands, and the bandwidth and network scale are the best in Taiwan, and will be paired with Taipower's developing big data analysis center and data center in the future to create complete information flow hardware for digital transformation and strengthen the efficiency of the smart grid, and provide stable power to the people.
