- In the 2020 Sports Activist Awards commendation ceremony today, Taipower's Vice President Hsu Tsao-Hua received the awards from President Tsai Ing-wen
Taipower won the Sports Activist Awards for the 11th time! As an important driving force behind the nation's economic development, Taipower has not only provided stable and reliable power and promoted environmental sustainability, but also invested in the development of Taiwan's sports for more than 70 years. The Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education held the “2020 Sports Activist Awards commendation ceremony” today (December 25). For the 6th time since 2015, Taipower has won the “Sponsorship Award Gold Class”, “Sponsorship Award Long-Term Sponsorship Award” and “Promotion Award Gold Class.” Taipower indicated that since the establishment of its ball teams in 1946, it has cultivated more than 400 national players. In recent years, it has stepped beyond the stadium to hold the “Taipower Fun Ball Camp.” So far, it has attracted more than 12,000 children to participate in the camps. At the same time, it has also launched a “Care Crew” to provide guidance to schoolchildren in remote areas and pass on ball skills. This year, 37 games were organized, and the games have become an event that children look forward to every year.
The “2020 Sports Activist Awards” commendation ceremony was held at the Grand Mayfull Hotel Taipei this afternoon (December 25), where Vice President Hsu Tsao-Hua received the awards from President Tsai Ing-wen. To promote the development of national sports and thank the heroes from all walks of life who have contributed to the sports world, the Sports Administration has been holding the “Sports Activist Awards” commendation ceremony since 2009. In this year’s Sports Activist Awards, Taipower stood out from among 89 companies and individuals to share 3 awards with 4 other companies, namely Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Cathay Life Insurance and Taiwan Land Bank.
- Taipower's Vice President Hsu Tsao-Hua led the company's employees to participate in the commendation ceremony and cheer Taipower's ball teams.
Taipower indicated that since 1946, it has successively established six teams, including a men's baseball team, a men's volleyball team, a women's badminton team, a women's volleyball team, a men's football team and a women's basketball team. Over the years, it has cultivated more than 400 national team players. Among them are many well-known players, such as “Lady Liberty” Yang Meng-hua, “Pretty Babe” Guo Chia-wen and “Football Hero” Chen Yi-wei; all of whom are members of Taipower's ball teams. In addition to player training, Taipower also scouts high schools, colleges and universities for potential sports talents for long-term cultivation. In addition, it also adopts a "players as employees" career protection system. Through annual open screening, it provides opportunities for outstanding players to become regular employees so that they can be trained with a peace of mind and pursue a "second life" with Taipower after retiring from their sports career.
- The Taipower Women's Volleyball Team formed a care crew to promote ball sports in rural areas, and subsidized sports equipment to provide schoolchildren who love sports with more resources.
Taipower is aware of the lack of education and sports resources in remote areas. To develop sportsmanship and give back to society, Taipower forms a "care crew" every year with its own ball teams to provide guidance and pass on ball skills to elementary and middle schools in remote rural areas and outlying islands. This year, 37 games were held to deliver love to every corner of Taiwan. In addition, the Taipower teams also use summer vacations to conduct summer camps where national players instruct children in ball skills. The 6 teams were integrated for the first time in 2016 to hold the large-scale “Taipower Fun Ball Camp.” To date, a total of 44 experience camps have been held, which attracted enthusiastic participation from more than 12,000 children.
- The Taipower badminton team formed a care crew to pass on badminton skills to schoolchildren in Hualien County Wun-Lan Elementary School.
- The care crew from Taipower's football team went to Taoyuan City Chao-Inn Elementary School to instruct children in football.
- Taipower’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams went to Penghu to hold a Fun Volleyball Camp where national players instructed schoolchildren in ball skills.
- Taipower's baseball national player Tsai Wei-Fan instructed children in batting at a Fun Baseball Camp.
- The Taipower basketball team held a Fun Basketball Camp, which received enthusiastic responses from children.
In recent years, Taipower's teams have repeatedly achieved good results. This year, the Taipower women’s volleyball team won the regular championship for 8 consecutive years. Its men’s volleyball team won both the regular and challenge championships in the “Top Volleyball League Class A” for 6 consecutive years. Its men's baseball team competed against 34 teams in the Men's Baseball Spring League Group A and won the first prize. At the 2020 Taiwan Sport Industry Expo held in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in August this year, Taipower was the only state-owned enterprise in the nation with 6 ball teams. It also specially set up the “TAIPOWER POWERS TAIWAN!” exhibition to showcase the history and achievements of each Taipower ball team. At the same time, Taipower's ball players were at hand to interact with the public so that society feel up close Taipower's dedication and efforts in cultivating sports.
