Today (the 8th) is the 107th anniversary of the birthday of Sun Yun-suan, known as the "Eternal President of the Executive Yuan." Before his death, he served as the President of Taipower and promoted the birth of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Hence apart from his four children, he regarded Taipower and the ITRI as his fifth and sixth children. For the first time in 2015, Taipower and the ITRI signed a MOU in "brotherly unity" to form an innovative strategic partnership. Five years later, they once again return to the Sun Yun-suan Memorial Museum to renew the MOU. According to Taipower, in cooperation with policies such as energy transformation and power market reform, it will collaborate and conduct exchanges with the ITRI in areas such as smart grid, energy storage technology and digital power, and work together towards stable power supply and a friendly environment.
Taipower today renewed the MOU on innovative strategic partnership with the ITRI at the Sun Yun-suan Memorial Museum. Chung Bin-Li, president of Taipower and Edwin Liu, president of ITRI, signed the MOU on behalf of both parties. The signing was witnessed by Deputy Minister Tseng Wen-Sheng of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taipower Chairman Yang Wei-Fuu and ITRI Chairman Lee Chih-Kung.
Taipower explains that for the first time five years ago, it signed a "brotherly " cooperative exchange with ITRI on “International Information Seminar”, “Technology Matching Seminar” and “Achievement Presentation” to focus on energy conservation and green energy. During the five years, Taipower has collaborated with the ITRI on more than 50 research projects, including smart grids. In addition to collaborating on the model project for installing small smart electricity meters in households and research on new modular low-voltage smart meter software and hardware, they have jointly overcome the wireless communication challenges of data transmission. As of the end of this year, Taipower has formally completed installing low-voltage smart meters for 1 million households. They also collaborated on smart power distribution systems to apply artificial intelligence and big data analysis to reduce power outages, and jointly promoted a pilot project on the Internet of Things. As for green energy, Taipower is currently collaborating with ITRI on a wave power evaluation research in the northeastern seas.
Taipower points out that in this renewal, the MOU is oriented towards digital transformation and green energy sustainability, and will address cooperation in the four major issues of "technology research and development", "talent cultivation", "co-entrepreneurship" and "international connection". They hope to work hard for stable power supply while taking into account environmental protection. Among the collaborations, technology research and development cooperation include 8 fields such as smart grid, energy storage technology, digital power, energy environment, innovative energy technology and systems, communication technology, information security and cloud technology, and other applications in the power industry. They will also collaborate on talent cultivation for the power industry in the nation. The two parties will jointly promote personnel exchanges, train talents in the power industry, share the latest technological trends and global technological developments, and jointly create new business opportunities in the power industry in accordance with research findings.
In his speech, ITRI Chairman Lee Chih-Kung pointed out that Taipower and ITRI have always been good partners in long-term cooperation. Five years ago, the two sides signed the first MOU and jointly produced many effective cross-domain cooperation outcomes. For example, the smart grid is an integration of traditional power industry and the emerging information and communications industry, and is an important milestone for the smart grid. In this second phase of the 2.0 version of the MOU, the two parties hope to expand the scope and intensity of the partnership. In addition to the original technology research and development collaboration, other collaborative projects in talent cultivation, co-entrepreneurship and international connection are also included.
