The Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, known as the Oscar of Taiwan Corporate Sustainability, held the 2020 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards ceremony today (the 18th). For the third time, Taipower won the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Report Platinum Award. At the same time, it also won the Taiwan TOP50 Corporate Sustainability Awards, the Social Inclusion Awards, the Creativity in Communication Awards, the Growth through Innovation Awards and the Climate Leadership Awards, breaking last year's (2019) record of 4 awards. Taipower says that it will continue to work hard to meet the expectations of all walks of life. On the premise of eco friendliness and reasonable cost, it will strive to balance environmental protection and provide stable power, and to live up to the awards.

The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy held the 2020 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award Ceremony at the Grand Hotel in Taipei today. Taipower's Vice President Hsu Tsao-Hua accepted the award from President Tsai Ing-wen. In response to international green energy transformation and smart development as well as domestic expectation of power stability, Taipower's 2020 Sustainability Report is entitled "Smart Energy Generation & Collective Inheritance." The report won the Platinum Award, the highest award in the Sustainability Report Awards-Energy Industry, sharing the platinum honor with TSMC, EVA Air and Taiwan Mobile.

Taipower points out that it will remain committed to the stability of power supply and promote environmental protection. At the same time, it is dedicated to reducing carbon and developing renewable energy. This year, as power supply becomes more stable, Taipower will gradually expand the range of load reduction. In response to air quality, both the Taichung Power Plant and the Xingda Power Plant implemented 21 days of load reduction in October this year. The Taichung Power Plant reduced the load by 3.3 million kW for 2 days at the end of the month. In terms of power generation by the entire plant, it is equivalent to less than 4 units at full load. The coal-fired unit in Xingda Power Plant implemented the highest reduction in 3 days in the middle of the month, accounting for three-quarters of the 2.1 million kW of the total installed capacity of coal-fired units in the entire plant. In terms of the coal-fired power generation capacity in the three days, it is equivalent to only 1 unit at full load, thus improving air quality with coal reduction.

In addition to the Taiwan TOP50 Corporate Sustainability Award and the Corporate Sustainability Report Platinum Award, Taipower also won four awards in the Best Practice Award, including the Social Inclusion Awards, the Creativity in Communication Awards, the Growth through Innovation Awards and the Climate Leadership Awards. Taipower explains that the 13-Layer Remains historical monument used to be a refinery. Due to the metallic substances in the ground, the site was listed as a pollution control site. However, its cultural heritage value continues to be recognized. Last year, Taipower adopted a brand-new concept of public art and an unprecedented model of reusing polluted land to light up the 13-Layer Remains on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and successfully drove local development. This year, Taipower won the Best of the Best Award in the Germany's 2020 Red Dot Design Award and the Japan's Good Design Award in the Block and Community Development category. Today, it won the Social Inclusion Awards.

The Creativity in Communication Awards affirms Taipower's communication achievements through creative methods such as somatosensory interaction and VR virtual reality images. Taipower indicates that last year, it constructed the Taipower D/S One Gallery, the first green energy theme exhibition gallery in the nation. The gallery integrates digital art technology with bungee, basketball shooting machine, flywheel and other interactive methods to demonstrate the principles of renewable energy generation. Resident artists and energy resource instructors are also appointed to conduct regular workshops and lectures. The gallery is regarded as the most fun exhibition hall in Taiwan. After winning the MUSE Award from the American Alliance of Museums, Taipower went on to win the Creativity in Communication Awards.

In addition to prosperous co-existence with society through innovative ways, Taipower remains committed to upholding its roles and responsibilities in the power industry. Taipower introduced innovative technology to build the first "direct power supply conversion platform" in Taiwan. The platform provides power users with multiple power purchase channels so that they can freely select their power suppliers. At the same time, it strengthens the competitiveness of the energy industry and improves the efficiency of power supply. The construction and implementation of the conversion platform for direct supply will increase the penetration rate of smart meters, accelerate the distribution of smart grids and increase the accuracy of power generation forecasts, and subsequently achieve energy saving and carbon reduction. After winning the Asian Power Awards last year, Taipower is once again recognized this year with the Growth through Innovation Awards.

In response to international climate change and sustainable development trends, Taipower released the "Taipower Environmental Policy White Paper" last year. It remains dedicated to implementing its six major commitments by "protecting environmental quality", "focusing on circular innovation" and "creating ecological integration." Taipower points out that using clean renewable energy and reducing carbon to combat warming have become a global trend. Taking advantage of the long hours of sunshine in the Changhua area, Taipower has integrated green building and eco-friendly concepts to construct the Changhua Coastal Solar Photovoltaic Field, the largest of its kind in Taiwan. The facility can generate 140 million kWh of electricity per year and reduce nearly 80,000 metric tons of carbon. At the same time, Taipower is also collaborating with environmental groups to preserve the habitat of the little tern. Its integration of green energy and ecology to create the first Clean Energy Center in Taiwan won Taipower the Climate Leadership Awards.

Taipower indicates that it is committed to its roles and responsibilities in the power industry, and is actively developing all aspects of soft and hard power. Taipower hopes to give back to society with its strength, strive to meet the expectations of the people and promote government policies to become an example of sustainable state-owned enterprise.
