Last year, Taipower held the first transformer box themed exhibition in Taiwan, the POWER ZONE- Transformer Box Popular Science Exhibition, in Xinyi District Taipei. The exhibition dissected and explained the most commonly seen transformer boxes, and showcased classic landscape paintings and new 2020 color schemes on transformer boxes. The exhibition attracted nearly 50,000 visitors and became a selfie hot spot. This year, Taipower has been invited to participate in the 2020 Taiwan Design Expo. The exhibition will begin tomorrow (October 1) and run until October 18th in the Hsinchu Park Confucius Temple Plaza to once again prove its popularity! Taipower indicates that it has created a new open concept exhibition venue, and visitors can even dress up as "Taipower Professionals". The public is welcome to come enjoy the fun during the long Mid-Autumn Festival and Double Ten weekends.
The 2020 Taiwan Design Expo Check in Hsinchu features "an exhibition with the entire city as the gallery". The main exhibition area is the sports stadium which showcases interactive technology, a two-kilometer walkway connecting to the exhibition area in the old city, where historic sites and old buildings are opened up for the public to roam. Taipower has been warmly invited by the Hsinchu City Government to extend the highly acclaimed transformer box exhibition to the Taiwan Design Expo for the first time. The opening ceremony of the 2020 POWER ZONE- Transformer Box Popular Science Exhibition in Hsinchu is held at the Hsinchu Park Confucius Temple Plaza this afternoon (the 30th). Together, Taipower Chairman Yang Wei-Fuu and VIPs from different industries unveiled the exhibition.
Taipower explains that the transformer box exhibition combines the three major elements of transformer, electricity and city. Translucent corrugated plates symbolizing alternating current and steel components are used to create a white transparent and bright open exhibition space. More than 80% of materials used in this exhibition are existing detachable components. Moreover, to coordinate with the Confucius Temple venue of the Taiwan Design Expo in Hsinchu, a spectacular linear exhibition space measuring 24 meters long by 9.3 meters wide was custom designed, making the exhibition space alone photo worthy.
Taipower points out that 10 transformer boxes featuring different paintings spanning from the 1960s to the present are specially delivered to the exhibition site. The appearances include classic landscape paintings and new minimalist gray. One transformer box alone can weigh up to one metric ton. The exhibition space offers a rich content, such as deciphering the inside of a transformer box, general science of electrical power and interactive transformer games. Taipower has also brought in equipment such as wooden electric poles and wiring equipment, and visitors can dress up and role play "Taipower Professionals". In addition to enjoying the fun at the exhibition, visitors can also learn about the sources of the often taken for granted electricity.
According to Taipower, most power plants are in areas far away from daily living, and power is lost during the transmission process. Therefore, Taipower uses high-voltage power transmission (the higher the voltage, the smaller the current and hence the smaller the loss) to ensure the quality of household electricity for the public. Transformer boxes play a key role in the "last mile" of power transmission, and shoulder the heavy responsibility of converting high-voltage electricity into household voltages of 110 and 220 volts. They are necessary equipment in underground lines and are inseparable from the daily lives of the people.
Taipower emphasizes that this extended transformer box exhibition in Hsinchu features a brand-new look. In addition to the Taiwan Design Expo from October 1 to October 11, Taipower will also exclusively extend the exhibition to the 18th. In addition to regular tours and workshops, visitors participating in feedback activities can also receive a beautiful limited edition exhibition souvenir. - The ABCs of transformer boxes:
In the early days, power lines were installed overhead on ground poles. In consideration of disaster prevention (such as typhoon) and urban landscaping, Taipower launched the “underground power line" project in 1965. To date, about 560,000 kilometers of underground power lines have been laid across the country. 548,000 ground-type transformer boxes have also been installed, and these are often regarded as Not-In-My-Back-Yard facilities. Nevertheless, these "suffering in silence" transformer boxes are in fact needed to convert voltage for household use. Moreover, after power lines are laid underground, transformer boxes are necessary for power repairs. Currently, 85% of power lines in Taipei are underground. In comparison, due to the higher cost of undergrounding, only 47.5% of power lines in Tokyo, Japan are underground.
