• Taipower's Lighting up the Thirteen Stories has won the Best of the Best Award from 2020 Red Dot Design Award.

Do you still remember the beautiful night at Mid-Autumn Festival last year when more than ten thousand people gathered in Ruifang to light up the Thirteen Stories? Recently, Taipower has actively involved in the field of culture and art and has taken the initiative to promote public arts and cultural heritages such as Lighting up the Thirteen Stories, or the "EnerGym", which is the first green-energy based exhibition hall, also known as the "Taipower D/S One", and the Just Flow Cultural Heritage Exhibition. All of them have won the 2020 Red Dot Design Award, and Lighting up the Thirteen Stories has won the biggest award - Best of the Best Award.

The Red Dot Design Award in Germany has been established for more than 60 years. It ranks among the four major design awards in the world with the iF in Germany, the IDEA in the United States, and the G-Mark in Japan. Every year, approximately 10,000 pieces of work are competed for the highest glory in designing. This year, Taipower’s Lighting up the Thirteen Stories, Taipower D/S One and Just Flow Cultural Heritage Exhibition have won the "Brands & Communication Design" Award.

Taipower stated that recently, it has assembled its public art, public relations, and cultural and creative departments to form a cross-departmental team, and collaborated with well-known groups in the industry to engaged in the field of culture and art. The team has won the Arts & Business Award from the Ministry of Culture and is now fortunate to step on the international design stage of the Red Dot. This suggests that Taipower continues to adopt diverse approaches to reach to the world, and will not give up any opportunities. It is an honor to be recognized by the Red Dot.

Lighting up the Thirteen Stories of Taipower which won the Best of the Best of the Red Dot Design Award is the first to adopt the approach of boosting cultural heritage by public art. It was lit up during the night at Mid-Autumn Festival last year to bring back the past glory of the mining industry. In June, it also won the award from the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). Taipower explained that the Thirteen Stories used to be the largest mining site in Jinguashi, Ruifang. In the late 1980s, with the decline in mining activities and the closure of Taiwan Metal, it was handed over to Taipower for management. Although the land was listed as a pollution control site due to the containing metal materials, its cultural value is still significant and has been continuously selected as the potential site for historic buildings in New Taipei City and the world cultural heritage. In addition to ensuring that the public is not affected by the site, Taipower also tried to promote the revitalization of the cultural heritage by using the "distant-looking" public art and collaborated with the international lighting master Chou Lien, artist Joyce Ho and YI.ng Lighting Design Consultants.

• On the Mid-Autumn Festival night of September 13 last year, Taipower lit up the Thirteen Stories of the ruins in Ruifang, New Taipei. More than 10,000 people flooded into the scene like a concert, rushing to see the largest historical building in Taiwan lit up.

The "Taipower D/S One" on the other hand is Taiwan’s first green-energy themed exhibition hall, which is also the first exhibition hall built on a substation. It is based on the immersive body-sensing interaction of the "EnerGym" that combines the elements of energy and gym. Body activities such as bouncing, dancing, shooting, battling rope, and flywheels are linked with the principle of renewable energy power generation, and are presented in the form of digital art, creating the most fun exhibition hall in Taiwan. The design of this exhibition won the Red Dot Brands & Communication Design Award. In July, it also won the MUSE Award of the American Alliance of Museums, the A' Design Award in Italy and the TID (Taiwan Interior Design) Award in Taiwan.

• Taipower D/S One has Taiwan’s first six-axis robot that integrated with virtual reality (VR).

As for the Just Flow-Cultural Heritage Exhibition of Taipower, it is themed on hydroelectric power generation that has been developed in Taiwan for over a century. It uses an approachable way to transform electricity into different aspects to dialogue with the audience, and convert concrete cultural heritage into understandable messages. This Exhibition also won the Red Dot Design Award.

• Just Flow-2019 Taipower Cultural Heritage Exhibition had more than 100 exhibits coming from hydropower plants around Taiwan, which included precious cultural and historical documents and objects such as electricity generation objects and construction/architectural blueprints, etc. Some 100-year-old industrial cultural and historical relics were exhibited for the first time.

To share the award-winning glory with the public, Taipower pointed out that it will launch the appreciation activity beginning from this Saturday (July 18).
