Taipower is amazing, organizing the transformer box themed exhibition! Do you find the web-like cables everywhere unpleasant? Do you feel that transformer box on the street is blocking the way and annoying? Most people like underground cables, but do you know that these transformer boxes are essential equipment for cables to go underground? There are currently 1.39 million transformer boxes in Taiwan which are responsible for converting high-voltage electricity into household electricity with low voltage, making them inseparable from people’s daily life. For the first time, Taipower co-organized the 'Transformer Box Science Exhibition' with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government in Xinyi District Taipei, which is also the first transformer box themed exhibition in Taiwan. Taipower mentioned that besides showing a wide variety of old and new painted transformer boxes, the transformer box with new color painting for 2020 will also be demonstrated for the first time. Even the entire power pole will be moved to the exhibition site. Visitors can also experience what it is like to wear the Taipower’s work outfit and take a photo with it. In addition to seeing all the demonstrations, visitors can also learn how the electricity is produced. The exhibition begins today (17th) and ends on December 8th. Hurry up and visit the exhibition!
　　Taipower hosted the opening ceremony of the 'Power Zone - Transformer Box Science Exhibition' at the Chianti Avenue Plaza of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store in Xinyi District, at 5:30 tonight. Wei-Fu Yang, Chairman of Taipower, and Zong-Xiong Cai, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government jointly unveiled the opening of the exhibition.
　　Taipower pointed out that the technical name of the transformer box which we often seen on the street is the "Pad-Mount Transformer". Since most power plants are far away from users, power transmission will result in electricity losses due to the resistance of the cables. Therefore, Taipower and power companies around the world are adopting high-voltage power transmission (the higher the voltage, the smaller the current and the electricity loss) with smaller electricity loss, ensuring the quality of electricity for the public. Transformer box plays a key role in transmitting the "last mile" of electricity, converting high-voltage electricity into household electricity with low voltage of 110V and 220V, allowing it to be used by everyone. This is why in the urban area with high electricity consumption that more transformer boxes can be seen. Currently, there are about 1.39 million transformer boxes in Taiwan.
　　Taipower explained that cables in early days were all overhead cables; for instance, they were installed on power poles. To take disaster prevention (such as typhoon) and landscaping of the city into consideration, Taipower launched the "Wire Underground" project in 1965. Currently, there are about 560,000 km of underground cables and 548,000 above-ground transformer boxes have been installed. These transformers are often viewed as annoying equipment. However, they have been helping to convert the voltage of electricity for people to use, serving as the essential equipment for fast and easy recovery of electricity when failure underground cable occurs. Currently, the proportion of underground cables in Taipei has reached 85%. Due to the high cost of underground cables, the proportion of underground cables in Tokyo, Japan, only reached 47.5%. 
　　In the past, transformer box was typically painted in green color or covered by landscape painting. To make transformer box not only a power facility, but also an art that can make the street more beautiful, Taipower collaborated with the 'Agua Design' to conduct street landscape improvement in the 2015-2017 Taipei World Design Capital 'Urban Landscape Planning'. A total of 399 transformer boxes were renovated by painting. Through color, symbol information organization, and public participation, people can better understand the creation of environmental aesthetics, in harmony with the surrounding buildings. This time, Taipower collaborated with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government to organize the first transformer box themed exhibition in Taiwan, which is also designed by the 'Agua Design'.
　　Taipower explained that the exhibition takes transformer box, electricity and city as the three major elements. The exhibition hall uses wave panels that symbolize alternating current (AC) and translucent exterior walls with lights that will light up at night. On the site, 10 transformer boxes with different paintings from different generations, including the new painting of transformer box that will be debuted next year were demonstrated. In addition, the exhibition also unveiled the structure inside the transformer box, teaching the knowledge about power science, and offering interactive games about the transformer box. Taipower also moved equipment such as wooden power poles and cables directly to the Chianti Avenue Plaza in Xinyi District. Visitors can also wear Taipower’s work outfit and take a photo with it. Besides seeing all the demonstrations in the exhibition, visitors can also learn how the electricity is produced.
　　Taipower said that all the demonstrations presented in the exhibition are not powered, so that people can feel free to explore and take photos. The exhibition is open from 10 am to 9 pm every day from the 17th to the 8th of December. City Power Exploration Workshops will also be held during the exhibition period.
