Hsinta Power Plant is going to be reconstructed and added three more gas-fired generators. In order to build an international-grade ecological power plant, Taipower for the first time opened up opportunity for power plant's international design competition, in response to which 70 works from 16 countries were received from eager candidates within three months. After two days' lively discussion and appraisal conducted by a professional assessment board, five works were nominated and among which the team from National Sun Yat-sen University Department of Marine Environment and Engineering was the one placed in nomination for Taiwan. The nominees from overseas were also very competitive, which included Ether Ship Architecture Design Firm (US), Leers Weinzapfel Associates, and Ressano Garcia Arquitectos (Portugal) as well as Morphosis Architects (US) which won Pritzker Architecture Prize— which is often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture. These nominees shall compete for the first prize—NT$ 4,000,000 in late April of this year.
