The Taipower Building located at Gongguan in Taipei City is Taipower's headquarter and the heart of Taiwan's electricity supply. It was the first building in Taiwan to break the 100m barrier (stood at 114m and had 27 floors) when completed in 1982. With the passing of 36 years, Taipower has incorporated Smart energy saving system into this old building by using iBEMS (Smart Building Energy Management Systems) to monitor and analyze the use of energy, and also by upgrading air conditioning systems and building up green data center, through which the energy saving is more than 1.6 million kwh per year and water saving is around 4,000 metric tons. With these achievements, Taipower Building has obtained the highest grade 'Platinum Certification' in the 'Transforming Existing Buildings' category from the US green building rating system LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and has been placed in the same list with Taipei 101, TSMC, and ASUS, etc. There are only 7 green buildings rated by LEED as 'Platinum' grade and Taipower Building is the oldest among them.

Taipower stated that the LEED Green Building Certification takes a comprehensive consideration of the following five criteria in its appraisal, which include energy, water efficiency, indoor environment quality, materials & resources and Sustainable Sites, and four grades-'Certified', 'Silver', 'Gold' and 'Platinum' are given based on different achievement degrees. Currently there are only about 400 buildings around the world were certified as 'Platinum'. As a state-run energy provider, Taipower is not only providing diverse and stable power supply to the public but shall also take on the responsibility to promote smart energy saving via certification like this.
