The first large-scale installation of microgrid on offshore islands was launched in Penghu Qimei, which accelerated its progression towards being an 'island of green & low carbon energy'! With the collaborative commitment of Taipower, Ministry of Science and Technology and Professor Chen Chaoshun to National Energy Program Phase II (NEP-II),  the 'Intelligent Microgrid Demonstration System' was completed in Qimei Green Energy Park in early 2018, which included the addition of 200kWp solar PV system and 300kWh energy storage system, successfully deriving the optimal energy capacity allocation which demonstrates the best cost-effectiveness results, enhancing green energy electricity quality, and lowering power generation costs. Taipower pointed out that it will continue to expand the green energy electricity generation and energy storage system in Penghu Qimei in the future. It is expected that after the completion of all constructions in 2019, the green energy electricity output shall reach 3.37 million kwh, which accounts for about 43% of the whole island's energy consumption throughout the year, and Penghu Qimei shall be established into a 'low-carbon island' realizing energy conservation and carbon reduction!
