In response to the regional power failure accident which has concerned the public since May this year, Taipower officially activated the 'Grid Strengthening Program' today (20180802) to conduct data analysis from aspects such as accident causes, impacts on users, failure regions, climate, categories and brands of damaged equipment and usage time, etc. to actively strengthen the grid system.
Taipower said that NT$16.25 billion shall be invested in the following 5 years to facilitate the following 'four major work items': upgrading and replacement of grid system and equipment of secondary substations, feeder automation expansion and establishment of smart substations. Besides, an integrated traceability system for upgraded equipment shall be established to fully control equipment status. Moreover, new technology equipment and techniques such as transformer load monitoring system, techniques for partial discharge testing and fault indicator, etc. shall be introduced to strengthen grid monitoring and control so as to prevent the occurrence of power outages and achieve the goal of this year by reducing the number of outages by about 600.
