Taipower has set up environmental protection department since 1986, which was a pioneer among state-owned businesses and was even earlier than the establishment of Environmental Protection Administration. It shows Taipower's ongoing commitment to protecting the environment while ensuring a stable electricity supply for the public. In the past 30 years, Taipower's power plants/stations including thermal, hydro and nuclear have all obtained accreditation from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for Environmental Management System and shall keep improving the air pollution emissions. Taipower won Taiwan's first Circular Economy Awards in March with the approach of reusing power plant coal ash. This event was followed by today's (April 2nd) first release of Environment White Paper which declared publicly the responsibility of environmental friendliness. Taipower stated that being faced with the air pollution issues and concerns raised by the public, Taipower promised a 30% decrease in the power plants' air pollution emissions by 2021 compared with that of 2016, 40% by 2025 and 50% by 2030.

Taipower explained that after considering the trend of domestic/foreign sustainable development, critical environmental issues related to power businesses and the public's expectation, Taipower included six strategic dimensions of the environmental sustainability blueprint in the content of its Environment White Paper, which were ‘React to climate change', ‘Guard the quality of environment', ‘Focus on innovation for Circular Economy', ‘Upgrade management system', ‘Build up ecological communion' and ‘Expand internal & external negotiations', etc., and also set up 12 strategic aspects and goals corresponding to the promise to the public.

Taipower said that since April 22nd is the Earth Day, besides the release of the White Paper, Taipower also made April be its ‘Environment Month' and followed it up with a series of educational activities such as environmental protection workshops, campus cooperation and Children's Theatre, etc. in hope that environmental protection shall become an unchanging DNA in Taiwan's sustainable development.
